Driver Licence Requirements

The requirements depend on whether you are booking a journey with a driver or asking to drive a hired vehicle yourself.

Booking a journey with a driver

A passenger does not need a driving licence simply to book a chauffeur journey. The assigned driver must hold the licence and other permissions required for the vehicle and service. Our partner approval policy requires relevant licence information to be checked, including its validity and suitability for the proposed driving activity. A licence alone does not establish that every vehicle, route or commercial activity is authorised.

Self-drive requests

Self-drive availability and eligibility must be confirmed before a hire is agreed. Tell us the intended drivers, their licence issuing country, the vehicle requested, the proposed dates and where the vehicle will be used. The supplying partner must provide the applicable minimum age, driving experience, accepted licence documents and any overseas-licence or international driving permit requirements before you commit.

We do not promise that a foreign licence, an international driving permit or a particular age will qualify for every hire. Requirements can depend on the relevant authority, insurer and vehicle. Do not rely on general website information as individual approval. If the requirements cannot be confirmed for you, do not proceed with that hire.

Each person who will drive must be named and accepted in the hire agreement and satisfy its requirements. Do not lend the vehicle to an unapproved driver. A licence must remain valid throughout the hire, and any relevant restriction or change must be disclosed before driving. The required documents must be verified before vehicle handover. If a document is not accepted, the applicable cancellation or refund position must be explained using the accepted booking terms and legal rights. Present the documents specified in the agreed hire requirements; do not send original identity documents or unnecessary copies through an unsecured message.

If a check is not accepted, you may ask for the reason where it can be provided and request a further review with supporting information.

Approval for a booking does not remove the driver’s responsibility to comply with applicable traffic rules, licence restrictions and the accepted hire terms.
